The 1st annual Varsity/Staff Mixed Doubles Championship was a big hit. From Dr. Toulios hitting an incredible serve, to Mr. Rojas hitting the ball out of the court. This tournament was one of the great events that Argo had this week.
Looking into the brackets for the competition, there was quite a challenge for the players having an intense path that ensured every match to have thrilling tennis action. Furthermore, the dedication exhibited by these staff members throughout the preparation and competition truly made quite the racket in this tournament.
From the sidelines of the varsity tennis courts:
A varsity tennis player, Gabi Dabrowski says, “It looks like everyone’s having a lot of fun, especially the staff. I feel like everyone’s going to have a great day, and whoever does win I congratulate them for their determination.”
Another Varsity tennis player, Lana Murphy says, “I have high hopes for all the teachers on the courts today, though if I had to pick a teacher it would have to be Mr. Thompson. I truly think that he is going to get far because he played tennis in high school, and he can hit the ball pretty good.”
By the end of the tournament Angela Zatloka and Mr. Taute had taken home the championship trophy, beating 1st doubles partner Gabi Dabrowski and Mr. Markatos. Having a rough start, they came to an amazing finish ending the 1st annual Varsity/Staff Mixed Doubles Championship with an incredible match and a new champion.
“It was an amazing tournament, an incredible opportunity to showcase what our girls have been working on. It was a great community building experience where staff members took part in. From the start to the finish, these duos really gave it their all. I appreciate the dedication our varsity girls gave today; it was a great time, and I can’t wait for the next one.” Said the head varsity tennis coach Mr. Loux.
