On Thursday, February 1st, the speech team performed at the Portillos Performing Arts Center. The team had a showcase for students, friends, and family staging a mini performance implementing each member’s talent.
The event was led by Jennifer Gutierrez, head coach of the speech team. There were many plays presented at the event but the one that stood out the most was “Voices from the Titanic” dramatized by Pat Cook.
This took place during the first half of the evening where multiple members of the team staged some of the last words of the Titanic passengers, implementing sound effects and costumes. Then, the show was split into three different rooms where each member of the speech team would present a preview of their technique and skills.
The band room, where Fatima Suhail performed a Poetry Reading, Natalia Stanibula did a radio reading, Alexandria Glazer’s narrated prose reading, dramatic duet acting by Jaylen Perez & Mustafa Hammo, an original oratory by America Ginez, and a humorous duet acted by Abigail R and Sofia F.
The theatre classroom, where Daniel Arredondo performed a Prose reading, Natalie Granda did an original oratory, Symone Leak’s dramatic interpretation, a poetry reading by Destini C, humorous interpretations by Hugo Sanchez and Jemile M, and an oratorical declamation by Minna S.
The choir room, a dramatic duet acting by Madison J & Magali G, poetry reading by Natalie M, informative speaking by Mia G, impromptu speaking by Tristian G, prose reading by Katherine M, and Alexandra Z and Magali G ended the night with a humorous duet acting.
