As the Eras Tour has recently come to an end, Taylor Swift yet again has graced her fans with a brand-new album to obsess over: The Life of a Showgirl, Swifts 12th studio album, a theatrical album with 12 excellent never heard songs, along with a song featuring Sabrina Carpenter.
The Life of a Showgirl is a brand-new album, like nothing any of her fans expected. Following the earlier release of The Tortured Poets Department, this album had big shoes to fill. The Life of a Show girl is a joy ride of emotions. This album is a love letter to her relationship, rekindling on the past, and embracing who she is.
The peak of emotions is on track 5, “Eldest Daughter.” It’s one of the slower tracks on the album; this song captures the emotion of the record with just its lyrics. Lyrics like “Every youngest child felt they were raised up in the wild.” Many fans agreed that this track is perceived as one of the more relatable tracks to Taylor’s listeners.
Although this album has many good songs, this album does have a few weak points. One of them being “CANCELED!” I understand this track goes along with the concept of the album, the struggles of being on top of the music industry, but for me it was a minor moment on the record. There was a lack of emotion. This song is the one I come back to the least. The piece just did not have a good rhythm for me; it was all over the place lyrically.
“Elizabeth Taylor” is a song that makes up for some of the weaker tracks. My personal favorite off the album. When you first start the song, it greets you with imagery with the lyrics, “That view of the Portofino was on my mind when you called me at the Plaza Athene.” This sets the theme of the song perfectly and is such a powerful lyric to establish the vibe of the song. This song gives all the poetic lyrics that some of the other songs are missing.
As someone who has been a fan of Swift and her music since 2017, I enjoyed this album. This album got mixed reviews from a lot of people, but this album deserves its flowers. It is worth listening to. It might not be your all-time favorite, but there are definitely a few songs that are worth listening to.
