Wednesday, September 6, Argo’s girls’ seniors played a tough powder puff football game. Maroon vs. White, who will win?
Starting off the night Argo’s speech team was selling tacos for a fundraiser. PJ DiGangi said, “Well I got to say, I don’t know any of these teams, I came here for tacos but also I think the maroon guys are going to win.”
The maroon and white teams ran onto the field and after time to warm up, the teams were off.
Both teams were fighting for the first touchdown but did not have much luck with a 0:0 after the first quarter. About 7 minutes 30 seconds left on the clock, Valeria Marquez, Number 56 scored a touchdown for the white team. At the end of the 2nd quarter the scoreboard was 7:0 with the white team in the lead. Ally Coker said in a recent interview,” I think it’s going to go kind of even, there were a few switch offs earlier in the day today on who’s going to be on what team, but I think both teams work hard, and they got this, girl power!” Her friend, Joselyn Raudalez followed up her statement, “I think it’s going pretty good; I was rooting for both teams, I don’t want to discriminate because I’m not like that.”
During halftime, the senior boys football players gave the crowd an awesome performance by dancing, lifting each other and even doing the worm.
With the clock ticking 8 minutes 57 seconds left on the board for the third quarter, Gabriela Dabrowski, number 7, scored a touchdown for the white team. The third quarter was soon over, with the maroon team struggling to get a mark on the board, losing with a score of 14:0.
The fourth quarter rolls in quick, not even 3 minutes into the fourth quarter, Valeria Marquez yet again makes another touchdown for the white team. Although the maroon team was losing by 21 points, Lesly Benitez carried the maroon team by trying her best to run far with the ball and attempting to score a touchdown for her team.
But unfortunately for the maroon team, the white team took them down 21:0. Although the maroon team lost, they continued to stay positive. As the teams were walking off the field, their best players were interviewed.
Lesly Benitez, who was the MVP for maroon said,” It was good, it was fun, it was fun for my first senior event. I feel good knowing I did good.” Going back to the white team, Gabriela Dabrowski said, “think the game went well, we did a really good job, it was perfect, it could not have gone better. Everyone was so positive, but we focused on our own team. White team on top forever!” Lana Murphy, a player on the white team added, “We were throwing some dots; we were really running.” Ending with the MVP of the white team, Valeria Marquez said, “Kendall was really good, Kendall took everyone’s flags, defense and offense was amazing.”
