How student athletes manage their time

Many students don’t have much time throughout their day. Some students just go to school and don’t work or play any sports. But that’s not the story for many students; some students go to work and play on a travel team.

“We practice Tuesday and Thursday from 7 pm to 9 pm for club and for high school we practice right after school until 5:30 pm. So, I don’t usually have extra time to go out,” said Nathan Khim a senior at Argo Community High School.

The student-athletes must be good at time management because there are only 24 hours in a day, and they must get so much done. When they do this, it may get stressful sometimes because they aren’t even technically adults yet and they do so much that it makes them feel like adults. Those students sometimes have problems when they must travel out of state for tournaments.

“We have tournaments on the weekend, so I don’t miss school but when I travel out of state it’s for a few days, so I miss less than half a week of school. But sometimes it’s hard to find time to retake a test and getting fully caught up is hard,” said Khim.

These students put in the work. They practice a lot and have a lot of stuff on their plate. This is a big commitment and not many people can handle that type of lifestyle at such a young age.

“For high school, we practice every day after school until 5:30 and for a club, we practice two times a week for 2 hours,” said Michal Gacek.

Some of these student-athletes are doing good and hope it helps them in the long run. It teaches them how to manage time, and be responsible young adults, and sets them up for the future. Those same students hope to play in college.

“And hopefully this all works out for the end, and I can play in college,” said Khim

Even though the students are good at managing time it sometimes leads to the student being stressed out. When the students get stressed out it sometimes leads to their grades slowly dropping and not doing as well in school or even depression because of stress.

“Sometimes I feel so stressed because there isn’t enough time in the day to do everything I need to do. Sometimes I also feel like my grades drop because of time management,” said Khim

Other times students have no problem managing time and feel great about how they are doing in school, work, and sports.

“At the end of the day, I manage my time perfectly and I have no troubles during school,” said Gacek.
