On Thursday, Oct. 2, 2025, Argo Community High School had their first flag football senior night to give recognition to the seniors on their team.
Before the game started, the seniors lined up and were called out individually with family and friends. The announcer described what the players wanted to pursue in college or what their favorite memory was.
In the first few minutes of the first quarter, Number 8 A’liyah Cummings made a touchdown, causing the crowd to cheer and stand.
Right after that touchdown, Argo made a 2-pointer, changing the score to 8-0.
Cummings made another touchdown, making the score 14-0.
During the second quarter, an extra point got added onto the score board causing the score to change to 15-0.
Seven minutes into the second quarter, number 5 Morgan Murphy made a touchdown making the score 21-0.
“[I felt] a lot of pressure because a lot of the girls depended on me because I’m the [quarterback],” number 16 Sofia Fries said.
Not much happened in the third quarter until the very end when number 24 made a touchdown with one minute remaining.
Now the score was 27-0.
At the start of the fourth quarter, Argo made another touchdown, making the score 33-0.
The crowd was ecstatic. Everyone was cheering the girls on.
With 6 minutes left into the game, Crete made a touchdown, making the score 33-6.
Then suddenly, Crete got an extra point, which changed the score to 33-7.
During the fourth quarter, with 2 minutes remaining, Crete made another touchdown, making the score 33-13.
At the end of the game, some of the girls ran over to each other and did what they call their “victory dance.”
Head coach Todd Evans reflected on the impact sports can have on a person’s life after Argo won their senior night game.
“You learn to manage time; you learn to work with people; you learn to work through difficult times; not every failure is a failure,” Evans said.
