On Tuesday September 9th, 2025, Argo Community High School’s Flag Football team had their first ever home game in IHSA history against Bremen High School.
The game started off strong. Number 8, A’liyah Cummings, made the first touchdown only six minutes into the game, making the score 6-0 and causing the crowd and girls to be ecstatic.
“The team is starting to come together and everybody’s starting to play a very pillar role,” Assistant Coach Bush said when describing how the girls played.
Argo’s momentum continued to thrive after that first play. They were encouraging each other, clapping and shouting.
In the first few minutes into the second quarter, Argo made another touchdown from the 40-yard line, adding 2 more points onto the score board.
But that’s not all. Number 24 made a block against Bremen’s pass.
Argo was on a roll. At the start of the third quarter, Number 5, Morgan Murphy, made another touchdown only 2 minutes into it.
As Morgan was running for a touchdown, the crowd and her team started cheering her on while the girls followed Morgan and the ball on the sidelines.
Another player that played a major role was Jiselle Gonzales as she checked in as defense.
“It was kind of nerve-wracking at first, but after playing for a bit, and seeing that everybody was being so positive, it was really good,” Gonzales, number 46, said.
Right as the clock hit 0, Sofia Fries, number 16, made a touchdown, causing the crowd to cheer.
At the start of the last quarter, Argo was still going strong. Everybody seemed positive and was hyping one another up, which shows the support this team has.
“There is a lot of encouragement going on,” head coach Todd Evans said as he talked about the positivity this group of girls had when on the field.
With only three minutes left, Bremen made a touchdown, causing the score to be 34-6.
Bremen made a 2 pointer after the touchdown, making the score 34-8. The girls didn’t let that bother them. They kept their momentum strong.
Three seconds left in the fourth quarter Bremen made one last touchdown, making it 34-14.
The team cheered and ran as the clock hit zero.
This is Argo’s first ever Flag Football team in IHSA history.
“The fact we even have flag football now is a tremendous thing for women’s sports,” Coach Bush said.
