On Friday, September 13th, one of the biggest football games of the season will occur. Argo Community High School will take the gridiron hosting their rival, Reavis High School, the day before homecoming.
This will be the team’s first time seeing each other in the young season. Argo is looking to continue their hot start to the season, and a win against a rival school will feel great for team morale.
Players are looking forward to the opportunity.
“Being mentally prepared for Reavis [is important] because they’ve been our rivals for multiple years,” said Argo defensive and offensive lineman Jack Gaines. “Just to go out there and just dominate them and carry that momentum.”
Memorial Stadium will be packed. The Argo Sailorettes will be loud and proud to get the fans ready for the game. And people in the crowd are going to be rooting as loud as they can for Argo to continue their hot start to the season.
“Since it’s the homecoming game, and since it’s Reavis… I think more people will be focused on the game, rather than not,” said Victoria Lee, a sophomore at Argo. “It’s going to be loud. People are going to be excited.”
Argo is coming off back-to-back wins: a road win at DeLaSalle (45-0) and a home win to defeat Bloom (21-0). The defense and offense are looking to continue clicking as they go into Friday’s game.
Phillip Rossberg, head coach of the varsity football team, has plans to keep the momentum. Instead of only focusing on the game, Rossberg is interested in the process of improvement.
“Just continuing to build on that, not being satisfied or complacent,” said Rossberg. “We’re happy with the result, cool, but now let’s go get better, because everybody else is going to be getting better.”
