Culinary club is having their Halloween cupcake decorating competition on October 25th at Moraine Valley Community College. It will be a great way for students in the club and class to show off their decorating talents.

“I think students will do great,” Ms. Swanson teacher of the culinary class and club said. “They will have the opportunity to see the facilities and meet some of the professors for the culinary program there.”

For senior Amany Abusalem, the competition is special because it gives her a chance to share her dream with other people.

“I love baking and it’s my passion,” Abusalem said. “So when I’m older I want to open my own bakery, so as of right now I’m still practicing, but I feel very confident about my baking abilities.”

In addition to the people from culinary club being able to participate in the competition, some from culinary class also get to participate if they want.

“Culinary club starts with students that are enrolled in Culinary Arts,” Swanson said. “As we have limited space due to needing the use of kitchens. This also ensures that the students have learned the basics of kitchen safety and sensation, which is obviously very important”.

As the competition happens some will be pleased to see students from other local schools.

“Additionally, they will get to meet some students from other local schools,” Swanson said.
