About Face Theatre came to the Argo LRC to perform “looking out // looking in”, a production designed to bring awareness to struggles of being in the LGBTQ+ community. The play is an original piece that was collectively written by its cast about their own personal experiences. They performed on The Day of Silence, a day which students who are part of or allied with the LGBTQ+ community are encouraged to stay silent in solitude for those of whom were silenced by bullying.

This GSA sponsored event, put together by the amazing Mrs. Walsh and Mr. Padilla, was powerful, moving, and real to say the least. Even though this production was only 30 minutes, it tackled multiple issues in a very poetic manner.

You didn’t have to be a member of the LGBTQ+ community to relate to the actors and their experiences. “It was an amazing experience,” said Astrid Garcia, “It was extremely insightful and emotional that it will bring you to tears. I loved everything about it and I’m so happy that I signed up for it.”

About Face Theatre mixed in a bit of humor with serious topics which maintained a lighthearted feel. Christina Guzman said her “favorite part of the play was when Donnie (one of the actors) explained the ten steps to being a gay Mexican and not knowing Spanish.” This scene had much of the crowd laughing.

Everyone who went loved the show that About Face Theatre put on. “As an actress, I loved the experience,” said Rainy Loper. “It was an amazing creative process. I loved how inclusive and how it tackled multiple subjects. I loved it,” she continued.
